PlayStation 5 Pro Survey

A recent survey conducted around JB HiFi stores in Sydney revealed that only 5% of respondents are planning to purchase the newly announced PlayStation 5 Pro, which currently retails for AUD $1400. Out of the 1000 people surveyed, a striking 70% said they have no interest in buying the console, while 25% remain undecided about the upgrade.

The undecided respondents gave a range of reasons for their hesitation. Some mentioned waiting to see what games would be available for the PlayStation 5 Pro, especially as more information about the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI release becomes available. Others cited the hope of a potential price drop in the future, expressing interest in the Pro only if it became more affordable. There was also a common theme of waiting for additional performance comparisons between the Pro and the current PlayStation 5.

On the other hand, those who said they wouldn’t buy the PlayStation 5 Pro were largely turned off by the high price point. Many respondents felt that AUD $1400 was simply too expensive, especially when compared to the current PlayStation 5 or even a gaming PC. A significant portion of gamers pointed out that a PC offers more value for the money, thanks to free online gaming, a wider selection of games, and the ability to upgrade components over time. Some also highlighted the extensive game library on services like Steam and Xbox Game Pass, which they felt outweighed the limited exclusive titles on PlayStation.

Additionally, several respondents said they were content with their current PlayStation 5 and saw no compelling reason to upgrade. They expressed satisfaction with the gaming experience on the current model, which already supports 120 FPS and offers strong graphics and performance. With many blockbuster titles like Call of Duty and Spider-Man 2 still looking fantastic on the base model, there seemed to be little need to jump to the Pro, especially without a substantial increase in frame rate or game-changing features.

These survey results indicate that Sony may face challenges in convincing a broader audience to invest in the PlayStation 5 Pro at its current price. Without a trade-in deal or a major price cut, the Pro might only appeal to a niche segment of Australian gamers eager to experience the highest graphical settings available on the next big titles. For the average gamer, however, it seems the PlayStation 5 Pro isn’t an essential upgrade—at least not yet.
